What we do
The gap above your wall units is a cupboard.
Standard wall cabinets are 720mm or 900mm tall. Dubai ceilings are typically 2,700 to 3,000mm. Once you allow for the 500mm gap above the worktop, that leaves 300 to 600mm of wall above the units doing nothing except collecting dust and making the room look unfinished. In a three-metre run that is about half a cubic metre of storage you have already paid rent on.
We build the run to the ceiling instead, usually as a taller cabinet with a second door above, or as a single tall unit with an internal shelf. Where the ceiling is not level — and in most Dubai apartments it is out by 10 to 20mm across a run — the top is scribed to follow it rather than leaving a wedge. This is the same made-to-measure approach we use on every set of kitchen cabinets, and the reason it is possible at all is that the units are cut in our own workshop after the room has been measured.
There is a limit worth respecting. Wall units on every wall make a kitchen feel like a corridor, particularly in an apartment. In smaller rooms we often take the uppers out of one run entirely and put open shelves or nothing there, then make it back with a taller run elsewhere. More upper cupboards is not automatically better — reachable ones are.

Ceiling-height runs
The unit continues to the slab with a second door above for the things you reach twice a year. The top line is scribed to an uneven ceiling so it reads as one plane.
Lift-up and bi-fold doors
The door lifts clear on a gas stay instead of swinging out at head height. Worth it above a hob or anywhere two people pass — an open hinged door at eye level is the most common minor injury in a kitchen.
Lit glass display units
Glass fronts with LED strips inside, usually at the end of a run or either side of an extractor. They break up a long wall of doors and give the room somewhere to look.
Open shelving instead
Sometimes the right answer above the worktop is nothing at all. On short walls and in small kitchens open shelves keep the room feeling wide while the storage moves to a tall run elsewhere.

FAQs
How high should kitchen wall cabinets be mounted?
The materials are — the marble comes from Italian quarries and the lacquers and hardware are European. The cabinetry is made in our own workshop in Dubai, cut to the measurements of your room. We are direct about that, because an imported kitchen takes three to five months, arrives in standard European sizes, and then has to be packed out to fit a room it was not measured for.
Should wall cabinets go all the way to the ceiling?
Two slabs cut in sequence from the same block and opened like a book, so the veining mirrors across the joint. It is what makes a marble island look like one continuous piece of stone. It must be planned at the yard before cutting and the pair bought together, so it cannot be added later.
How deep should wall cabinets be?
Honestly, it needs care. Marble etches with lemon, vinegar and wine, and stains with oil if left. Sealing slows both but does not prevent them, and the patina is part of the material rather than a fault. Many clients put marble on the island and quartz on the working run — the full comparison is on our kitchen countertops page.
Are lift-up doors worth the extra cost?
Calacatta for bold, dramatic veining on a bright white ground; Statuario for a softer grey vein; Carrara for the quietest and most affordable of the three. The names refer to quarry regions, not grades, so two Calacatta slabs can look very different — which is why we take you to see yours.
Can I have a kitchen with no wall cabinets at all?
Yes, and in an open-plan room it often looks better — the kitchen reads as furniture rather than as a kitchen. The storage has to go somewhere though, usually into a tall run or a larder. We work it out at the design stage. See our kitchen storage approach for how the capacity is recovered.
Can you replace just the wall cabinets and keep the base units?
Sometimes, if the base units are sound and the finish can be matched. Be aware that a new front rarely matches an aged one exactly — lacquer and laminate both shift with UV over a few years. We will tell you honestly at the survey whether the match will be close enough or whether it is better to replace the whole kitchen.
